Åland has its own fisheries legislation. The right and opportunity to fish in Åland deviates to some extent from what applies in Sweden and other parts of Finland. The biggest difference is that hand-held fishing is not free, nor is angling freely permitted. There is also no state fish conservation fee charged within the province. The main rule is that you must always have the water owner's permit for all forms of fishing, regardless of time and place. People visiting Åland have the opportunity to fish with hand-held fishing gear in the province's fishing license areas; fishing permits are obtained by purchasing a fishing license. Hand-held fishing gear refers to casting rods, fly rods, jigs and angling. Trolling fishing is not permitted.

• To strengthen the fish population, the following fish measurements must be observed in the province's waters:

Pike 55-80 cm

Pike perch 40-60 cm, protected 1-30 June

Sea trout 50 cm

Perch 20 cm

• A maximum of 1 fish/person/day is kept and the rest is released back. For perch 10 fish/person/day. Catching undersized fish is prohibited, undersized fish are individuals that are smaller than the legal minimum dimensions. We recommend catch & release.
• The landscape's fishing license areas are nature conservation areas, for which special fishing times have been established for each area, see the specific PDF documents for their rules.
• In the province's fishing license areas, the general regulations on fishing that are part of the Åland fisheries legislation apply.

• Hand-held fishing from shore is prohibited from April 15th to June 15th.

• You should not fish near other people's inhabited beaches, boat docks or other people's gear.

-Annual passes for the province's Åland fishing permit areas may only be purchased by Ålanders. Annual pass holders must be able to prove their permanent residential address to the fishing inspector.

RECOMMENDATIONS
By showing consideration for nature and other people, the common enjoyment increases and the fishing trip gains its true value. Travel carefully near bird nests. If a bird nest is scattered, the chicks are helpless prey for, among other things, snipe.

• Remember to take your trash with you.
• In many places there are so-called hake and shooting grooves. Some of these still have a function and otherwise they are monuments from times gone by and should be respected.

MONITORING
Fishing in the area is monitored by the Provincial Property Office staff, supervisors and other supervisory authorities.

• Upon request, fishing licenses must be presented to them. They also have the right to remove illegal fishing gear and dispose of illegally obtained catch.
• Illegal fishing is reported to the police.
